He has concussion issues, it wasn't like he was just doing it because he thought he'd be better at law.

depends. If you mean Yale or lineman for the Redskins...then Yale. If you mean, something like T30 or kicker for the Bears...kicker all day. Kickers get money, and they don't have to do deal with long-term health issues.

Concussion issues and his dad already has a law firm? Easy choice.

Linebacker for the browns? That's like a bumper car with a dead battery.

NFL. Sweat had better be SURE that he really wants that DEGREE, or he will really regret never finding out if he could hack it in the RED ZONE. It's no SECRET that law school is a gamble these days, so he might regret his decision if he finds that going to a non-elite institution effectively BANs him from practicing in any meaningful way. He could use his ARM AND HAMMER some receivers pretty hard, but I guess he would rather not see how long his SPEED STICKs with him before he's forced into retirement. I suppose it's admirable that he's not just some BRUT.

This dude is a linebacker with concussion issues. If the law school is T14 or so, I say go to law school. Still, there would be an argument for going to the NFL even if he were going to HYS. If we were talking QB, FGK/P or Receiver, I would tell him to go do 4-6 years first, make a few million dollars (even a low-paid player can retire as a multimillionaire after a few years) and retire before 30 with a nice nest egg and some great contacts to employ in my second career. What about potential opportunity costs in terms of potential clients, investors, and endorsements? He could be throwing away $2M-$10M even if he is an undrafted free agent; that's not peanuts.

In both careers there's a good chance you won't get a job, take hits to your person(al life), get beat up (by boss or client) and if you get cut, could have a tough time getting rehired

Hmm, maybe you think he would have been better off playing RIGHT GUARD instead?

UFAs sometimes have success, but tend to end up on the practice squad if they're not cut outright, which many of them are. They make $5000/week or about $90k for the season, but none of that is guaranteed week-to-week and if you're injured, your medical for that particular injury is covered, but you're otherwise out on your ass. And even if you do go on to a long career on the practice squad, you're left with what? You don't have an NFL name to trade on; you may have made some wise investments, but there's not that much you can do with $90k a year.

If the guy has prior concussion issues (or lingering injury issues of any other sort), this seems like a no brainer, no pun intended.

RGIII plans on doing law school after the NFL. Granted, he is a franchise player and getting paid exponentially more than possibly making and playing for the Browns. That being said, I'd do NFL then Law School.

IF anything else, it's good work experience.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that Sweat got into law school at Pittsburgh, Duquesne, West Virginia, Florida and the University of Miami.

Wow. He must really not want to compete for a roster spot.

Nevertheless, NFL is a pretty good soft I reckon.

ATL listed the schools he got accepted to. The best school is Florida. Put it this way, he has a better chance at making league minimum ($300k) than making around $150k in BigLaw. And that's after racking up over $100k in debt. He can always go back to law school, and if he plays for one year, or even languishes on the practice squad for a year, he can still use that to take a huge chunk out of the costs for school. He had one concussion. If he decides to choose law school over the NFL I'd worry that he still hasn't fully regained mental capacity.

His family connection makes a good salary likely.
