Hello. I'm a 0L, but please don't crucify me.
Was just wondering a few things regarding transferring after 1L.
1) When to apply. After 1L fall grades?
2) Does transferring usually mean sticker at the new school?
3) What does it usually take to transfer to a "peer school"? Above median? top 1/3? top 10%?
No, I'm not counting on transferring. I just want to be informed. Thanks!

1. A couple of schools have early application options and UChi has an ED program, those are done with first semester grades. Otherwise the majority of schools seem to have deadlines between Mid May and Mid June which means some applications will get sent before you have your spring grades and some will be within a week or two after you get them.
2. Almost certainly unless you qualify for need based aid.
3. It probably depends on what you consider peer and whether those schools consider themselves peers as well, but in order to transfer around the same or lower USNWR rank seems to be above median. Top 1/3 would seem to give you a decent shot at jumping up maybe a half of a tier, and 10% or better for T14 or above though I'm sure you can find people who got into them a bit lower.
I'll happily defer to anyone who has more knowledge on the process than me if I'm making shit up here
