Top Law Schools

I apologize if this has already been answered before, but I cannot find it in all the posts about Chapman. Do they offer full ride scholarships in their part-time program? If you have received aid for the part-time program could you possibly share your GPA/LSAT score?

I also have a couple broader questions as well. Does having a dual JD/MBA make you more competitive when looking for a job? I am probably looking at doing the part time program for both as I do not want to quit my job. I work in healthcare, so I am hoping I can move into the legal department at my current company. Any thoughts on if the MBA would assist with that? It is a fortune 500 company so I would imagine they recruit from T1 schools. I did speak to one attorney who stated he attended Cal-State Fullerton's part-time program and got hired by our legal department. What made him more competitive was a finance degree and CPA license. I have a social ecology degree.

Any direction/advice would be greatly appreciated!

He opened up his own practice and has managed to grow a client base and has added associates and staff to his firm. I believe he and the associates are located in various cities in OC. As I said, he's afloat and he's just starting out but he's a success story of Chapman and as I said, he was worried.

My husband is an equity Partner at a big intl firm. He graduated top 5% from a TTT school in Cal. If you can play well with others, not going to a first or second tier school won't destroy your future, but you might have to work harder to find that first job. It won't be handed to you.

Did your husband graduate in the last 3-4 years? If not your anecdote is even more irrelevant.

He's a partner so almost assuredly no.

I keep seeing what I can only describe as the lottery defense for these schools: just because a few people win, it's okay for you to play.

Large law firms do have very structured hiring practices, so you do have a better chance of getting a big firm job if you attended and succeeded at a top school. My post did not dispute that well known fact. Enjoy your lofty careers. Best of luck!

Nobody said your post disputed that fact. We're trying to point out that your husband graduated in a time when it was easier for a TTT grad to be employed, therefore your personal anecdote is totally irrelevant. Glad you came back two weeks later to wish us luck though.

OP - I work in the legal dept of a Fortune 500 in the healthcare industry. I work with a ton of attorneys all over the US, who have years of experience in a myriad of types of laws - regulatory, transactional, business, employment, and litigation, all in the same company. I do contracts here and I love my job but I decided that I will quit to go to law school full-time.

If you can work something out with your company, and they can pay for tuition - I don't see why going to Chapman part time would be the worst option.
