I noticed people mention that reimbursement checks come in during weeks 1-4 depending on the school, so how do we pay for books using our loan/scholly money?

Credit card, money you have saved prior, not all schools give you money that late.
Do you not have other expenses prior to law school starting like moving, security deposit, rent, etc?

I was hoping not to add any more bills to that list. I just assumed tuition and books would be handled via are loans/scholly money.

I'd like insight into this. I have no clue how the loan thing works for things that aren't related to tuition.
What about living expenses? do they just cut us a check or something? when do we actually get this loan?

I didn't get to request a refund until one week into the semester this January. Then after you request the refund, they take time to process your request, like another 5 business days. I was barely able to pay my February rent in time since we returned in mid-January.
So, yeah, having savings to pay for things was pretty essential.

savings/credit card are essential. Getting used 1L books in fall can be a pain because a lot of the 2l's are away on interviews etc. and the ones that are around want CASH. so I'd suggest hunting on amazon OR renting your books. But yeah the way loans get distributed can be a problem. Make sure to let your landlord or whatever know in advance, if they usually rent to students they should be cool about it.

Some schools allow you to charge your books until your financial aid is processed. Of course, books in the campus store will be more expensive than buying them used or on amazon, but at least you can get them. Might check with your financial aid office about this. Also, usually if you set up direct deposit with the school you will get your refund faster.

I'm just going to sell one of my kidneys. I don't drink, so in the south this should be prime property.
Wait. does alcohol have an effect on the kidneys? damn you wikipedia!

Get a credit card with an introductory 0% APR interest rate and then pay it off with your loans before the new/variable rate kicks in.
