I was wondering if anyone know about the case regarding affirmative action in higher education that came out of Texas recently? The supreme court agreed to hear it - I was wondering if it could affect the URM boost if the court rules against it.

I was just curious - I heard about a few days ago and one of the analysts said it could invalidate the legality of affirmative action in higher education.

I think this is certainly a legitimate question. However there is already a thread discussing the topic.

This won't be locked if people maintain some civility. Just don't start AA ranting and things will be fine.

I am pretty sure this has been said but even if the obligation to account for minority status in law school/college admissions is taken away, I doubt it will make much of a difference in actual practice. It's still a huge selling point for schools to be able to say they have a diverse class. If a school all of a sudden admitted all non-minorities, that school would really hurt it's image. Also, since medians and reporting statistics work the way they do, school will still be able to admit people below their medians. Being a URM will still be a great reason to be admitted to a school with lower than average numbers.
