I did the same. I think they just assume you're a white male if you do this.

I heard if you don't respond, they just flip a coin, and if it heads- you are URM; if it is tails- you are a generic white guy from New Jersey.

I'd rather just tell them I'm a white guy from the midwest, instead of there being a chance that I am mistaken as someone frome New Jersey. I think they just assume you are white, assuming that the rest of your application doesn't "betray" your demographic information in any way.

No one forces you fill out the demographic info so it's your prerogative to not respond. I've heard that Asians could be adversely affected by identifying so I can understand the hesitation. You aren't breaking any rules, and it may be in your best interest. You'll just be considered a non-URM, probably white.hsk143 wrote:Bump

I had another thread, with a similar discussion. I'm a mix between Chinese and White (a bunch of other things, but those are the main two).
