Thank you for actual advice!Dany wrote:For class, wear whatever you want. Jeans and tshirts are fine. For ASW and orientation, I'd say nice jeans and a top/cardigan (not a tshirt) but still casual. A casual dress would be fine too.
I'd recommend having at least one nice skirt and a nice pair of black pants with several tops that go with both for things like meeting with alumni mentors or receptions and things like that. And one nice pair of appropriate heels. I'd go for black on the pants/skirt/heels.
And once you find out where you're going to school, you can also ask current students what you'll need that's school-specific. At some schools I'm sure you won't need a suit until later on, but at mine we had to wear suits to a dinner at orientation.
Not sure if serious.dreamflower wrote:So I will be starting law school in the fall, after living in a developing county for the last few years. Therefore, I basically have very few semi decent clothes and almost no "professional" clothes.
What kind of clothing will a first year female law student generally need? Suit set? Pencil skirt? Blazer? Nice black pants? Professional heals? Etc.
I just need to start preparing! And browsing online is about my only form of shopping right now.
Also, since we are on the topic, what do most females wear to things like ASW and Orientation. Anything special?

Oh wait.acrossthelake wrote:For class/school I show up in whatever. Well, except pajamas. I wore a t-shirt during orientation and so did other ppl, nbd. I have a skirt and a nice top to wear for things like mock interviews and receptions, etc. I haven't needed a single suit at all, but I will when I start interviewing in January. I didn't gain weight during 1L first semester...if anything, I lost it, but ymmv. Nobody in my section seems to have moved much in either direction. But maybe you will, so IAFG's advice to wait might apply.
I think your body rebels against the nastiness for the first semester, but after a second semester of 1L, when you're gunning even harder, your body finally gives in to the squish. I'd say it was pretty universal. But then most girls had lost some or all of it by OCI.acrossthelake wrote:Where does it come from, then? I thought it'd be from the stress (note: I gained weight in undergrad from stress throughout the semester, shed it over winter break, again for spring semester, shed it over summer, etc. Yet none yet for law school)? Is 2L more stressful? Or is the larger amounts of booze people drink later on?IAFG wrote:Oh wait.acrossthelake wrote:For class/school I show up in whatever. Well, except pajamas. Just wait.
This happened to me 1L. Lost weight 1st semester, gained 2nd semester, lost it by OCI, gained during OCI, and lost that weight again soon after.IAFG wrote: I think your body rebels against the nastiness for the first semester, but after a second semester of 1L, when you're gunning even harder, your body finally gives in to the squish. My diet now is nothing but gas station jerky, Chipotle chicken burrito bowls with no rice and lots of veggies, and Jimmy Johns' lettuce wraps. Shit is so cash.ilovesf wrote:I lost a lot of weight before 1L, gained some of it back first semester. 1L fall totally ruined my diet - they have no good salads in our law cafe and have delicious muffins.
