I'm a 1L at a top 25 law school and was curious if anyone has any opinion on a joint JD/MSA. Thanks

Seems pretty pointless to me. Do you want to be an accountant or a lawyer?

If you want to be a tax lawyer, and want a masters degree, get a LLM in Tax, preferably from NYU or Georgetown.

Also, if you want to work in Big Law, a JD/Master in Acct. would probably be a red flag for employers, since they do not know if you really want to be a lawyer.

The reason for the MSA would be as a supplement to the JD. I am interested in corporate/tax/financial law and thought it would give me specific analytic and financial skills with regard to that area that I don't have now. Not sure I buy the whole argument that it could be a red flag. If I was really interested in being an accountant there would be no reason to attend law school whereas the MSA provides additional analytic and financial skills.

Not necessary. If you want tax, find an employer willing to pay for an LLM.

Another reason was my concern about the job market coming out of law school. At least with an MSA I could probably find some sort of accounting position and not be an unemployed lawyer.
