How long does it take to take out a loan?

Please don't mind my ignorance... But I never took out a loan for college, my father just paid all of my bills straight up. So once you get accepted and say you don't get a full ride and you need to take out a loan.... How long does it take before you receive the money for that loan? Like if I get accepted in December... When is the soonest I can get my loan money? I am thinking of moving out where I get accepted as soon as I get accepted.

Depends on the loan, but federal government loans tend to get disbursed pretty close to when school starts (early to mid-August is typical). Private loans can be taken out at any point, but you should expect about a month between applying, processing, and actually receiving a check.

Edit: Some private educational loans will require you have a schedule of classes, so actually you might have to wait on that as well.

Federal loans, the type that most people get for law school, normally get disbursed a week or two after classes start.
