Top Law Schools

Hello TLS members, I have been lurking these forums for a little while now so I figured it was time to actually sign up and not creep behind the scenes. Anyway, my question is in regards to the University of Cincinnati. I noticed on the TLS stats that those people who reported scholarship offers from the school only received close to 12K a year. Being a Northern Kentucky resident that's only a mile away from Ohio, I find it a little irritating that the differences in tuition between in state and out of state are so vast.

I'm wondering does UC even give out full rides or hefty scholarship offers for people who have an excellent LSAT score or GPA? I know that one person reported a 172 lsat and a 3.3 gpa and they only received 7500 a year. I really don't want to be in 34,000 dollar a year debt going there and it seems like the scholarship money that they give out will only help to pay for the first year of school at best.

I would move to Ohio after going to UC for a year and establish residency there but it still seems like the debt and hassle of relocating is not worth it. Any help or insight into the whole scholarship issue would be appreciated.

They don't seem to. To be honest, if anyone has ridiculous numbers for Cincinnati, why would they go to Cincinnati. It's a good school but it's way overpriced and they don't give out much money.

The only reason that UC is one of my options is because I want to work in the Cincinnati legal market. I'm starting to think that Ohio State University and IU-B are better options though. Both give out more scholarship money depending on your LSAT and gpa, and both are ranked higher and located somewhat close to Cincinnati.

Thanks, I don't know how I completely missed the section on the site where they lay out the applicants and how much scholarship money they received. It looks like Ohio State and IU-B are my top choices. Now, if I can somehow get a 170 on the october test I'll be set.

UC seems pretty stingy with $, but it is fairly easy to get in state tuition in Ohio for years 2 and 3. Also, check out the metro tuition rate for students that live in N. Kentucky. It isn't in state price but its a nice discount compared to OOS $.

I had pretty good stats (>170, >3.9) and only received 15k per year with a GPA stip.

It seems like most of the scholarships there max out at 45K total, regardless of LSAT and GPA. I didn't realize that the metro rate was only 120 dollars more per year than In state tuition. 22,000 a year is a lot better than 34,000.

+1 on the Metro Rate discount. It's available for all three years even if you move to N. Kentucky a couple weeks before classes start, as I understand it. With a 12k/yr scholarship, 10k/year in tuition isn't a bad deal if you're wanting to work in the Cincinnati area.
