I am an entering 1L (accepted, registered for classes, etc.) and begin law school in August. Last month I was arrested for and plead guilty to a dwi. I would like to contact the NYS bar to assure that I would still be able to pass the character evaluation and be able to practice in New York so long as I do not get in any more trouble. Can anyone tell me how I would go about this? I want to be sure that I could still practice prior to disclosing this to my law school. Also, can anyone tell me what the likely chances are of the University withdrawing my acceptance? Is the withdrawal of an acceptance common if a student pleads guilty to a misdemeanor prior to matriculation? Also, it is my first criminal conviction and I completed all court requirements in regard to the conditional discharge. No probation, etc.
Any help or insight at all would be extremely helpful. Thank you.
