What's your goal?dingbat wrote:I'm really hoping to be able to post in here when grades come out
My school has a quartile system. If I can get top 50% I'll be okay with it. Top 25% is the hope, though.

I'll be happy with top 1/4, content with top 1/3, unhappy with top half and suicidal below medianminnbills wrote:What's your goal?dingbat wrote:I'm really hoping to be able to post in here when grades come out

Yeah below top two quartiles and I'll cry myself to sleep. I feel pretty good about my chances, though.dingbat wrote:I'll be happy with top 1/4, content with top 1/3, unhappy with top half and suicidal below medianminnbills wrote:What's your goal?dingbat wrote:I'm really hoping to be able to post in here when grades come out

Because of the quartiles, top 1/3 isn't really attainable, though I guess I'd know if I was close.

I guess if you have something in particular for a tar. I was going for a winter/holiday theme. I expect to get jobs by strength of my resume, so I don't need to be top of the class, but I still need to be above any cutoffs. Top 1/3 is where few firms go belowminnbills wrote:Yeah below top two quartiles and I'll cry myself to sleep. Barring IP you've pretty much gotta be top 25% at my school, a few below will get firm jobs. But 2nd quartile and I could probably swing a state clerkship and then move into private practice from there. There are only a few big firms here, so I think the other firms are flexible about not coming in through an SA.

Here between 20% and 25% get biglaw+fed, but that's not strictly the top 25% who get it. Based on other data, I worked out that basically top 1/3 should be able to swing a few interviews. Top half and I need to hustle as hell to try and swing some midlaw somewhere to at least be no worse than before I attended. Below that, I don't even want to think aboutminnbills wrote:Barring IP you've pretty much gotta be top 25% at my school, a few below will get firm jobs. If I go bottom half I'll probably switch gears and try and find a business gig, there are corporations in MN who'll pick up JDs. From there, either MBA to stay in business or PHD and academia.dingbat wrote:Here between 20% and 25% get biglaw+fed, but that's not strictly the top 25% who get it. There's a rumor going around town that firms are upping their class sizes. Considering the typical firm only took 0-2 over the past couple years, even a small increase could have a pretty neat effect, especially considering that class sizes are down.

Re: ITT: Post HORRIBLE exam stories that resulted in a B+ or bet
That makes a point; if I'm below half, I can go the consulting route (I could have done that before the JD, but don't want to deal with the travel), or I can stay on the business side, but that just meant wasting 3 years of my life. Oh well, at least I've already got an MBA.minnbills wrote:If I go bottom half I'll probably switch gears and try and find a business gig, there are corporations in MN who'll pick up JDs. I slept one hour before my crim law final. I was totally out of it. I called the prosecution "the plaintiff" the entire exam. I only wrote one paragraph for the policy question.

0L here also very terrified by this thread. Do you still do well if you study, or does it not matter? I'm honestly wondering now.

You need to study to do well, but because of the curve plenty of people who study still get bad grades.howlery wrote:0L here also very terrified by this thread. Do you still do well if you study, or does it not matter? I'm honestly wondering now.
