Sorry if this is a common question, couldn't find anything from a quick search.

If I got letters from boss/professors this year and am going to retake and reapply are these still good next year or should I get all new ones? If I need new ones is it more acceptable to have professional letters since I won't be near my school to get academic ones?

They're still good next year, but you should probably get at least one new one just so you're not submitting all the same LORs as the previous year.

Well I wasn't under any illusions that they made a big difference, more of a "can hurt, but not help, but not having them is a red flag." I just don't want to send that red flag up by using all old ones.

I used the exact same LORs. I had intended to get a new one but the prof who was supposed to do it didn't send it in until December after which point I had already applied. It don't think it had an adverse effect on my cycle.

Last cycle: Applied to Penn and denied, didn't apply to Mich/Va
This cycle: Applied to Penn/Mich/Va, waitlisted at Penn and rejected at Mich/Va

Of all my reapplications, Penn was the only one that actually sent me an email saying "hey, we see that you used the same LORs. we would like a new one, can you send one?" to which I said "no" and they said "okay."
