Top Law Schools

Okay, not sure if this is the right category to ask this question in, but:

Anybody done the Law Preview program? I've never heard of it. It sounds like it could be useful - you're supposed to get free supplement material and strategies on how to take effective notes, outline, write a memo etc. before heading to law school. But then again, it might all just be PR. Anybody have info about this?

You get a bunch of people who have never taken the course telling you that it is useless and a waste of money and that it will influence you to do awful in law school.
Then you get others who have taken the course and say they think it was worthwhile, but not for everyone. These people are generally regarded by the first group as trolls working for Law Preview.

I love this place, you get so many conflicting answers on every single thing you search for, and meanwhile, every single person in every single thread thinks that they are 100% right, every time they type a word into the "Post a reply" box.

I have no idea whether I'm taking it or not. To be honest, the main thing that is making me want to turn it down is the fact that it costs >$1000, which seems positively overpriced, especially if they're giving the course to some people for free. (I'm not part of that group.)

I already bought some of the "bibles" of prepping for law school as referenced by many on here (Law School Confidential and Getting to Maybe) so maybe I'll just kick back next to my pool with a cold beer during the summer and read those instead. We'll see.

Useless, don't go unless you get a scholarship.

69Coronet, I think you're trying to put too much weight into what other people have to say about their experiences. Well, heh, that's really why we're all here right? Hoping to catch "tips" based on someone else's experiences, particularly negative ones, so we don't make the same mistakes. But someone has to make the mistake in the first place. Then we either silently go "oh, well I won't do that then" or post a reply berating the person for their stupidity.

Anyway, even if a small minority of students benefit from this "law preview program," you won't know if you are in that small minority or not until you actually do it. And then even if it really helps the vast majority of students, it may not help you specifically. So this is like a schrodinger's cat type question, haha.

Go ahead and spend >$1000 to prove everyone wrong. Please check back in with your grades after 1L.

The entire point of this board is that people share their gained experiences and there is a certain degree of built up institutional knowledge. I think everyone is, or should be, aware of this.

Nobody said I was going to spend any cent of money.
Matter of fact, I am pretty sure I'm not going to do it at all, and I'm not particularly interested in proving anyone wrong in any sense of the word.

this is just simple decision making. if most people say they did well without it and only a few who actually did it say it's useful, the right decision is probably to not do it because it is unnecessary. learn now, if you keep doing the unnecessary, you will drown in law school.
