I was under the impression most students use their laptops outside of class. I would like to ask what the TLS community feels is the best model or brand for three years of school.

I'm waiting for apples annual "free ipod with a mac giveaway." Needless to say I'll be getting the new macbook pro with the free ipod touch. I'm tired of windows crashing and the hardware breaking 2 weeks after my warranty expires.

Samsung is amazing but are so overpriced I'd have to put them up with Macs in their wild price ranges.

MacBook Pro, anything less would be uncivilized.

Seriously, don't be one of those kids with a PC laptop lugging around the big power brick. It's unseemly.

I hate the keyboard on macs. I don't think I can ever grow comfortable to the ctrl button being where it is + the distance at which the keys are placed apart.

Seriously, don't be one of those rolly bag toting kids with a 17inch $3,000 macbook they bought so they could gchat in class.

I'm a cheapskate at heart. The $350 jobbie (or whatever you are typing on now) will do you just fine. If it can run word and a modern internet browser, you are good to go.

Anything that doesn't cost twice as much as it is worth. I will never buy a single Apple product because they overcharge for everything. I can't imagine needing anymore power than my year and a half old Toshiba. I'll probably update to a new one before I graduate, but I think I may stick with Toshiba. Their prices are great for the computing power.

Apples are expensive, sure. I think I paid $1,200 or something like that for my 13" MBP, but they're engineered extraordinarily well. They just work, no matter what. I haven't had one lock up, crash to desktop, lost document, etc. in the year since I bought my Apple laptop. Plus, the customer service from Apple is top-notch. My fiancee has had to have her MacBook repaired multiple times, mainly due to rough usage, and their turnaround is crazy fast.

I'm not an Apple fanboy. This is the first Apple I've ever owned, and I still keep a Windows desktop. But for a working laptop, MBP is the bomb.

I <3 the Lenovo X100e that my work gave me. Tiny and light and fast enough for non-gaming purposes. Plus, mine got thrown across the room during class one day and it booted right back up without skipping a beat. I will probably be buying the newer X120e version for school (only $400ish).

I hate macs myself. Samsung is the windows equivalent, you know, except it doesn't suck.
