Top Law Schools

I hope this hasnt been asked already, I tried to look but couldnt find anything. I am an OL, will be attending Rutgers-Newark in the fall and was curious about Clerkships. What are they exactly, meaning what are your day to day responsiblities like. Are they preferred to getting a full time job? What measures should a student go through to place them in a more competitive position to attain a clerkship. Any information really regarding clerkships in general would be appreciated.
