Civil Engineering major to pursue in IP Law?

Quick Question:
One of my good friends is at UT Austin as a civil engineer major (he is a third year college student). He recently decided to become a lawyer and is planning to take his LSAT's soon. He's been specifically interested in intellectual property law since he will graduate with an engineering degree. My question was does the degree have to be a natural science or a mechanical engineering/electrical engineering degree specifically or ANY engineering degree such as Civil engineering?
