Effect of Double Majoring?

I'm currently in my junior year of undergrad at a public ivy, double majoring in finance and math. Originally had some other career plans, and didn't decide on law school until this year. I'm wondering what/if any effect having 2 fairly difficult majors while keeping a 3.8+ will have on my application? Obviously it won't hurt me, but I'm wondering if law schools put that much weight into it or if it could make up for the fact that I'm not overly involved in school-related organizations. Thanks.

Double majoring won't have any effect.
Hard major will have a slight effect.
But you'll basically only get into schools your GPA and LSAT say you should.

I thought all the schools in the Ivy League were private.

Public Ivy is a term from a book written in the 70s IIRC. I believe that Berkeley, UVA, and Michigan are Public Ivies, as well as UVA.

Public Ivy is still state school. State school = laaaame.
But DF is right, no real effect at all.

The only effect a double major has is a greater chance at having a lower GPA. So... congrats on having a lower GPA, and therefore lesser admissions prospects?

While the double major may not help for law school, it would help if you ever want to get a job in another field.

This. Though in my experience as a former econ/math double major, the fact that you have significant mathematical coursework is more important for most jobs than a math major. If you can get a minor that would still be worthwhile.

Thanks for the advice/help everyone. I'm still going through with the double major anyway because I'm almost done it at this point and have already finished my hardest classes. Thanks again for the help.

Blatant UVA trolling.

Cornell is the only hybrid public/private university in the US as three of its seven colleges are land grant colleges with lower tuition for New York state residents.

The effect of double majoring is that it makes you tired and have to work harder for the same GPA. Other than that, nada. No help.

I have a 4.0 in both my majors, and I like both of them. At my school its the rare student who doesn't double, so maybe that influenced my decision. No regrets, but it is extra work and its only worth it if you genuinely want to study both fields, not because of any leg up in law school since it doesn't really help.
