Top Law Schools

I currently attend an undergraduate institution where the gay male population is rather sparse. Few people out or the ones who are gay have been scared into the closet by religious groups. Anyway, what law schools would you suggest have high gay populations? I would appreciate responses about schools from tier one through regional schools. I really would like a change in atmosphere where people are comfortable with their sexuality.

Most law schools operate independently from their colleges and tend to be more progressive for a variety of reasons. Avoid Notre Dame and Pepperdine and you're probably fine.

If you want a more in-depth analysis, try looking into whether the law schools have student organizations promoting gay rights, such as a Lambda alliance organization.

The question is a little too broad. Where do you want to be? What are your numbers? Etc.

Otherwise people are just going to throw out random schools that you may not care about or be able to get in to.

I agree with Kalvano, but I think generally, California would be a good place to be.

Thanks for your help! LSAC GPA is 3.81. LSAT next weekend. I'm aiming for a 165. So, anywhere from tier one to tier three. Although I do not know how relevant other information is, I founded an on-campus organization, received a recognition from the governor of my state as a youth volunteer of the year, first person in my family to graduate from high school and now college, and worked 25 hours per week throughout my undergraduate career. I am open to about any region.

Try and get in the upper 160's and you have a strong shot at USC and UCLA. With a 165 you have a strong shot at Irvine I think, but I would double check their numbers.

Really, pick any major city and you'll be fine.

Hell, I'm in Dallas and there is a huge gay population. In freaking Texas. Any major meto area should have joined the 21st century by now.

Almost any non-religious school is going to be fine, and even some religiously-affiliated schools are fine (Georgetown, BC, Fordham). Major metro is not necessary.

That said, gayest schools in your numbers range, targets and reaches are probably any UC, USC, BU, GWU, Fordham, Colorado. Be aware that most of these schools would pretty much bind you to their region in future employment (UC-Davis/Hastings to NorCal, USC to SoCal, BU to Boston and NYC, GWU to DC, Fordham to NYC, Colorado to Colorado).

Most law schools have a group for gays; contact them for specific details of specific law schools.

You should definitely apply to Boalt. It's a reach, but I think they're more forgiving of the high GPA/lower LSAT combo, and the Bay Area is incredibly queer friendly.

Manhattan's also pretty gay. I think you have a good shot at Fordham. If you can get the LSAT up four or five points, NYU is a possiblity. Is it too early to say "retake" if you haven't taken the LSAT yet?

University of Washington is the most gay-friendly law school of which I am aware. They are rather proud of their gay population. They literally ask you ON THE APPLICATION if you identify with the lesbian/gay/bi/transsexual community and if so, is it okay for them to brag about you? They also have a statement on their website officially condemning the military's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy.

With the exception of this asshole: --LinkRemoved-- , I find that lawyers in general are fairly moderate, normal humans that don't hate people for the sake of hating people. More or less, no matter what major city law school you choose (and frankly, smaller city law schools as well), you really should be fine. Though I'm not gay (my gay roommate in undergrad would often point out that I lacked the style to pass as gay, even if I wanted to), i knew pleanty of gay kids in my non-big city law school, all of whom were openly accepted at my school. I would worry more about going to a good school in an area you would like to eventually work, to be honest.

Boston University. We are rocking about 12% of our 1L class of 270. I would almost be willing to put money on us being the gayest school.

15% before we start recruiting them to our side. 140 males in the 1L class and about 20+ openly gay students. Lesbians are a bit lower which is why I shaved the figure to 12%.

My goal is to get it to 25% by graduation.
