New curve?

I'm assuming under the old system A- was a 4.0?

In terms of LSAC it won't matter, they calculate it with their own system, and your schools new version corresponds to theirs. What that means is you will have a more accurate idea of what your LSDAS GPA is. Other than that it doesn't matter though for law school, you are just going to have a lower GPA inevitably it looks like.

@OP: How does it matter if your classes are curved?

It won't make any difference to you, since all your classmates are graded on the same scale and that's what matters. I don't think it's really worth debating which is better, since it's a done deal and doesn't really affect you.

The school is trying to make the students think they are doing better than they actually are when they look at their grades at the end of the year. Unfortunately, if you were median in the old grading scheme you will still be median in the new grading scheme. That is largely what employers care about. Employers are also wise about these new inflated GPAs. Articles about it have been posted on law blogs.

and at the end of 1L you would still all be arranged in a neat bell curve that employers would use to screen you for hiring purposes. Some people would argue that professors gave out too many ###, or that their section didn't have a proper amount of Strawberrys, or that Milkshake encompassed too many people or too few people, or that more gold stickers would help student moral, or whatever the fuck else law students find to bitch about. But you'll still be on a curve, and it really doesn't matter at all the particulars of how the school delivers you and your peers into that soul-stretching statistical situation.
