Renting seems to be a new option out there. You can rent new and mark them up as you please. I've seen as much as a $100 difference between renting and buying. Is renting a good option for 1L courses? Why? Why not? Thanks.

what happened to buying used and reselling?

That's still an option, however, renting is still cheaper and the books are new.

I was looking into renting, but my school doesn't let you write or highlight rented books. Seeing as I love underlining, highlighting, and making margin notes in my textbooks, I can't imagine leaving it completely unmarked. So rental wasn't the way I decided to go.

My school allows you to mark them up and they even give you the option of paying the difference at the end of the semester and keeping the books.

If you rent them and you decide you want to keep them, do you have the option to buy them later if you choose? I'm debating on whether to buy or rent.

It's been a long week. Don't hate!

Depending on your schedule and your room mates schedule you could also buy the books and then share them.

Also wait until you know how the professors are going to conduct classes. You will find that in some classes you can do just as well buying a Nutshell or Emanuel guide for $30 and not bothering with the case book at all.
