LiveScribe Echo Smart Pen - Who uses it?

So I just bought an Echo 4GB Smart Pen. I plan on taking notes with it, while also using it as a recording device.
Has anybody else used this handy pen for school?

also in class notes are not very useful for exam prep
I type mine and read them once before the exam.

Had you not told me, I would've never imagined it. It's a tad small, but different strokes for different folks.

Also, be careful with the recording bit. A lot of profs don't allow recording devices in class, and it would suck if you couldn't use the pens nifty other features because it happens to record.

I think it is a very practical purchase for law school and beyond... I love the feature that turns your handwritten notes into electronic notes, and it captures information that, at the time you are taking notes, you may not think are relevant.
It also saves the class from one more annoying person typing away loudly on a keyboard...
You will also find it invaluable when you get into practice and have no idea what people are talking about when you are sitting in a meeting... and yet you are expected to turn around research the following morning on the topic.

I have the 4 GB Pulse version. I thought I would be using this a lot. I bought a pack of spiral notebooks and ink refills.
Turns out that I don't take very many notes. After taking LEEWS it became apparent that only key information needs to be noted. I see people in class using their notebooks as stenographer machines. This is not a good idea.
The Livescribe pen is useful. But if I knew that the volume of notes would be low I would not have purchase.
It is great for diagrams and such. But if you have a scanner that works too...

Not at all. I do not use the VOICE recording function as that is not allowed in class. So I only use the handwriting recording function. You can transfer your notes into the Livescribe software then run the MyScript OCR software to translate your handwriting into text for pasting into OneNote.
The thing is I do not write that many notes. So the purchase of the Livescribe does not save as much time as anticipated.
There is NO way I would want to record and listen to classes again. Attending class is almost a waste of time anyway...why would you want to go through it twice?

BAN laptops! This is a growing trend apparently. Especially in 1L.
My original plan was to use this pen in classes that banned laptops to save on retyping. The MyScript OCR software turns your handwriting into plain text that you can cut and paste into any word processor or OneNote.
As it turns out my note generation is minimal, so typing them into OneNote would not and is not a problem.
Even so, the pen is pretty cool. Not cheap, but not unreasonable either.

I got one a couple of years ago for undergrad. I thought it was really cool and pretty useful. If my notes were a little sketchy, I could aways figure out what was the prof was saying at the time. This especially was useful in some of my philosophy classes, where my notes looked half-insane sometimes.
Plus, it's just a cool gadget to mess around with. I'm definitely bringing mine to law school.
