Desks - whatcha got?

I'm about to move and am looking at desks. The one I have has limited space and I feel like it's going to make it tough to fit a book and some notes or my laptop on it.
I'd like to see what desks are working well for other people.

Just buy a door and put it on 2 file cabinets like Matthies did.

Looks like it's probably not necessary to have a bunch of shelving or drawers, eh? Just some filing cabinets and a bookshelf?

Only $100 when I picked it up. However, after I put my laptop, mouse pad, monitor, lamp, and document tray on here I wish I had a little more room. The rollout keyboard thing helps though.

I got this from Staples over the weekend. I got it for 119.99 on sale and they deliver for free if it's over 50.00. The desk is currently out of stock but there should be more in later and they also have them at the store and they still deliver it for you. I saw the desk at the store and it is very nice and even though it doesn't take up a lot of space, there is plenty of space for books, laptop, printer, and much more. Good luck!

I have those, but for the space-challenged (i.e. moving into a studio), that's a lot of space when storage needs probably aren't that high. 2 cubes wide, maybe 3, would be more than enough.

How do you attach the desk? I plan on heading to Ikea once I somehow discard of my current desk, additional ideas are always a help.

I have this and LOVE it.
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10115213 The drop down door is great for hiding shit away. It's very sturdy for Ikea.

Only 90 bucks. It might be kinda small, but you could fit a laptop and some books on it easy, and it fits nicely in my room on the same wall as my bed.

I'm picking up a used conference table from craigslist. Nice mahogany wood with 6 leather back chairs for $90 bucks! It will replace the pool table in my place now lol. Nice and big to spread out all my material, and accommodate any study groups!
CL FTW!

71" L-desk with Hutch. Pricey, but space for a dual monitor set-up and still plenty of room to spread out.

Yeah, I like this one, but I think it might be too small once I put books, laptop, EXTRA MONITOR (which is apparently a necessity?), printer, and whatever else on it. Then again, whenever I'm doing homework, I almost always have the textbook out AND my laptop in case I need to look up any think pertinent to the material.
Also, those drawers seem pretty useless. What exactly would you put in there? Some printer paper and a couple pens?

It's sturdy as a rock and built in the U.S.A. with high quality solid woods. An IKEA desk will last a couple of years tops, this one will last a lifetime. That being said, Room and Board is generally overpriced and I'd never pay retail for it. But some people do. And when they redecorate or downsize they sell things to me on craigslist.
If you want to get a flimsy laminate IKEA desk, it'll also be considerably cheaper than retail on craigslist.

I have something pretty basic with lots of space to spread out. Fancy drawers aren't necessary.

I use an orphaned desk-style credenza left over from an office move. I'd like to have something deeper, but I've learned to live with it as the compactness works well in my study. I built a monitor shelf along the back edge to help out with that.
Most cities will have a least a couple office furniture liquidators. Be prepared for sticker shock on real wood, even if it is used.

For a BIG desk that's sturdy, and not stupidly expensive, your best bet really is a door on cabinets (or sawhorses.)

My boyfriend's best friend had one of these in his apt in NYC. It's huge and sturdy. I like all the leg room under it and gladly sacrifice drawers.
(plus, you can adjust the leg height)
