Not sure how this would help you get to NYC. Did you try to get interviews in New York through Wash U's off-campus program there?

Uhhh, or just take the simpler route. Walk up to NYC, look it square in the face, and tell it you're from WashU. Your office will be ready next monday, sir.

In my opinion, UCLA would have more cache in NYC, than Wash U.

What do you base your opinion off of? Rankings. Forget about ranking. They mean nothing in this case.

Nik, go to UCLA because you want to and because it will be better for you from a financial and social standpoint (being close to family). Do not go to UCLA because you think it will help you get a job in NYC. UCLA is a great school, but, like WUSTL, its primarily regional. In other words, going to UCLA will not give you an advantage over WUSTL when it comes to getting a job in NYC.

If youre ok with it, stay at WUSTL. Perform well and do great at OCI.

Good luck!

I think it's gonna be rough sailings getting a job in NYC out of either school. Why didn't you apply to transfer to BU? I know it's a little bit more of a lateral transfer than to UCLA, but at least you'd be on the same coast as your target employment area.

Unless you have LR at WashU I'd go to UCLA.

This! Stick with Wash U. The ability to transfer to UCLA means you are doing well at Wash U. With your stats you can do quite well at OCI. And UCLA is taking you far away from the East Coast.

just how well did OP do at WashU? A transfer from WashU to UCLA is probably not particularly difficult, I'd guess about top 1/3 and perhaps even less successful students have a good shot at least, though I could be mistaken

Ya, he likely would have gotten into somewhere better if he was top quarter or higher. But if he is top 25-30th percent, with nyc being the biggest highering city in the country, OP has a CHANCE at NYC biglaw.

Eh, it is really dicey, which is not anything you don't know. I am not diminishing that sort of success at WashU at all, but unfortunately I don't think it will swing much in NYC at the moment. OP should still make every effort of course. Also, I do not see what great advantage being at UCLA as a transfer would offer unless it is a matter of regional preference.

I'd like to know this as well, op. Could you give us a range?

Just out of Curiosity, did you apply to transfer to Cornell?
