What do law students do over spring break?

Might be a dumb question, but I was just wondering. Do people take trips together (like in undergrad), does everyone just go home, or do you just study?

Good question. I'm wondering if I should make spring break plans or if I'll need that week for studying?

1L year I worked on my appellate brief for legal writing (which was due right after spring break).

2L year I worked on my note for my journal (which was due right after spring break).

3L year....I might not have a writing project, in which case I will relax and study in equal measure.

How about fall break? Any chance for a vacation on that one?

Should have some time to glorify the near destruction of the Native American race. It would be un-American not to.

When I met with some Indiana 1Ls this past spring break they mentioned that a lot of their classmates were taking trips to Cabo and Vegas, but the people I met with were just relaxing at home for the week.

Fall break is actually "Writing break" here. The very first graded memo you ever turn in is due at the end of it.

The 2Ls and 3Ls get it off though, at least theoretically. I think I am going to try and schedule fly back interviews then (assuming I get any).

Each year I took a few days off to relax. But most of the time was spent doing law school stuff. Some people go out of town. Law school, like much of life, is what you make of it.

There are opportunities at many schools for 1Ls to do a week-long service trip or some kind of quasi-legal community project. If you have a genuine interest in one of these, you should definitely take advantage. However, don't feel like you need to go just to get it on your resume. You are probably better served relaxing, writing your memo or starting outlines.

I did this. Some schools call it an "Alternative Spring Break". Doing it definitely helped with my summer job hunt, since I was applying for very similar PI work and was able to throw "I'm doing this kind of work in X Big City right now!" at summer employers. Got me an internship I'm very happy with.

However, if I had to do things all over again, I'd probably not do it. It was fun and a great experience, but 1L spring is a lot busier than I expected when I volunteered. I damn near killed myself with everything I had to get done that semester...
