Law school study time, really that bad?

I come from a really difficult engineering background, and I find it hard to believe that the amount of studying required for law school is much more than I have to do now. If it is, I'd be pretty scared. But I am hoping and guessing that a lot of the horror stories come from people with liberal arts background who aren't as used to spending late nights at the libraries for each class. Could someone with an engineering background who has attended law school comment on this?

The time involved isn't so much more than 1L, the stress / guilt for not working / gnawing sense of inadequacy is 10,000x worse. (in my experience / opinion).
