Top Law Schools

Hey everyone, I'm now in the process of finalizing things for law school next semester and I'm getting a little diheartened at how much debt I'm going to have after I graduate. Between tuition and books and cost of living, along with my girlfriend (who'll be my wife by the time i graduate) gonig to Physical Therapy school, we're going to be looking at a huge debt.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have any suggestions for financing a law school education? Luckily, my girlfriend has close to a full ride for her undergrad for softball and I'll have a pretty small debt to pay back for my undergrad (probably about 10,000-15,000).

I know law school is expensive and that is why I'm looking to those of you who have had to go throgh the same thing i'm dealing with right now.

Also, I'm not planning on working in a big city for a big firm, I'd like to stay around my hometown with about 20,000 people in it, so chances are I won't be pulling in 500k (or even 100k for that matter) every year.

Go to a school that gives you a full ride.

Use the resources available to you, LSN, TLS, Law School Predictor, and focus your applications on places where you think you could get full rides or large scholarships. I did that and only had one school that didn't offer me a scholarship, and only one of those scholarships was less than 3/4 tuition. If money is an issue then treat it the same as any other factor (location, reputation, etc.) when choosing where to apply. You might also look at LRAP programs at schools if you know you will do public intrest, which is not very lucrative at all. Also know that federal loan repayment can be capped at 10% of your monthly earnings. Now that may just mean you pay for 30 years on the loan, which doesn't sound like fun, but it can keep you from $1000 loan payments.

or a school that places well for government jobs. It'll cap your monthy payments reasonably and after 10 years will wipe whatever debt you have left.

Join the military, serve 4 years, then use your GI Bill.

Don't enroll.
Zero debt.
Win.
