I'm thinking about getting my JD/MBA, so I was wondering what the minimum quantitative (stats, math) skills/courses needed to get an M.B.A.

Thanks for any help.

^^^Heres my school's MBA program. I know for my business degree, I tried to take as little math as possible :) and for my undergrad in business I have taken these courses:
Business statistics
Financial Accounting
Managerial Accounting
Finite Math
Math Analysis
Business Financial Management (really hard!!!) -more accounting like and with financial statements, etc
Operations Management had some math

MBAs are more applying what you learned to real life to business situations instead of just learning the principles. I think you would need the math more to figure out business solutions and problems. Know how to read financial statements and forecast sales and things like that. With computers so prevalent a lot of the stuff shouldn't be too hard, but I would make sure to have some accounting knowledge at the least.

Hope that helped!!

No, I haven't. I've been studying for the LSAT. Do you have to take the GMAT? I was hoping that I could use my LSAT score to apply to the MBA program at the law school I attend.

Depends which school. You can apply for the mba any time during your first year of law school. Most of the schools I talked to required a gmat too, but the ones who didn't said that you needed it if you wanted to qualify for any scholarships.

With very few exceptions you need a GMAT. The GMAT tests arithmetic, algebra, geometry, word problems, and comparisons whose real name escapes me at the moment. Strong math skills are definitely a plus. There's also a verbal part of the exam, which is easy compared to the LSAT.

Make sure you NEED a JD/MBA for the career you want. If you're just trying to pad your resume you're wasting your time and money.

I am finished with my MBA. The GMAT is not that bad, but be prepared to take classes with more involved mathematics in your MBA classes. Statistics, Operations Mg., Economics, Price Theory, Finance etc. are all math heavy classes. If you are really worried about being able to do math, then the MBA is probably not for you.

It's not that I don't like math or even that i'm bad at math, it's just that i've rusty, since I chose a liberal arts major that didn't require any math, and so I only get a little bit of math through GE's, that's why I was trying to get a feel for what math skills were required.

I understand. I came back to get my MBA after a few years of working. Obviously, working does not take a mastery of statistics in most cases. Stats was the biggest struggle for me, as I found it boring and at times it seemed very pointless. Just be ready for the math, you can't escape it while getting your MBA degree. If you can choose a concentration, and wish to avoid math, go for HR or a general MBA. If those are not available then the simplest for of math comes into play through accounting, where it is more memorizing rules and applying them than it is on complex math.

action jackson- the problems you're thinking of are called "data sufficiency" problems. unique to the gmat.
