Studying for the Bar before Law School.

So this weekend I met this amazingly arrogant, yet somewhat deservedly, attorney/law professor/text-book author/business professor who told me that the best advice he can give me as a 0L is to study for the Bar the summer before law school. He said that once immersed in the study of law it is difficult to understand how it all fits together, but by lightly studying for the bar you can provide this basic skeletal outline which then allows you to see how all the parts fit together. Of course, this sounds sort of ridiculous to me as most advise to just enjoy your last few months of real life... but I'm curious if anyone else has ever heard this/what people think of this. Cheers!

Never heard such a thing. I will agree that when you are immersed in specific classes it is hard to get a big picture outlook of how everything works. But so what? I wouldn't read bar materials. If you are curious how things work, read up on how the Judiciary works.

I thought so too, but the dude swears by it. I wouldn't have thought twice about it if he wasn't a law professor...

Actually, my husband said the same thing. He gave a similar explanation, too - bar study breaks everything down very logically, and the information he got in law school would have been easier to make sense of if he'd had that structure/foundation already in place.

Some of my smartest colleagues are morons. This Professor is a moron.
Wait for law school to burn out. No need to start early. Frankly, you won't get a good sense of how everything fits together until you've begun practicing law for a few years.

I've heard the same thing from several attorneys. You are not actually studying for the bar but you are preparing for law school using the bar prep materials. It is supposed to make law school much easier. I've heard this advice but I dont know anyone who has actually done it.

This is beyond gunner tooldom, but I will say that reading BarBri shit before classes would probably help a little.
