will a few sentences suffice? should i include the name of the school i WILL be attending?

Few sentences. Just say thanks and there's no need to give additional information unless you feel like it.

You don't have to include the name of the school you will be attending, but you should be honest with your reasons, if you provide them. I sent an pretty formal withdrawal e-mail in which I explained that I was withdrawing for purely financial reasons, and within an hour I received an email sent by blackberry from the dean, asking for the amount of a scholarship I was accepting. It would have been very uncomfortable if had been disingenuous.

i just did a couple sentences, very simple along these lines:

thank you for the opportunity, i was very impressed with what the school had to offer, etc. however, at this time i've decided to pursue other avenues and am therefore withdrawing my name from the accepted student pool in the hopes that it can go to another worthy candidate.


i think most schools want you to include your LSAC account number too.

I withdrew via e-mail and it hasn't seemed to be a problem. Probably saves them time and energy to do it that way. A couple of schools did e-mail back to inquire as to where I would be attending instead. I was honest with them.
