overhead costs for starting own practice...

first off, is it possible when you first start to simply practice out of your house or apartment? i would only want to field court appointed cases until I became comfortable enough with the process and procedure to take on privately obtained clients... also, i want to do everything myself at first... is there a way i can tell the courts to limit my flow of court appointed cases?
how many court appointed cases would a small city and rural area with a population of 80,000 get daily? how many could i expect to get funneled to me on average? I know you get paid 75 dollars per hour to handle court appointed cases, and you log in how many hours you worked on each case....
finally, based on this information, would you get enough cases @ 75 an hour to live off of? lets say i do hire a secretary to file papers and do minor research and pay her 35,000 a year... that would still be six figures if you logged in 40 hours a week @ 75 an hour?
