I can't tell if you're serious or not.PDaddy wrote:NY is one of the fashion capitals of the world, and that affects the culture there and in the surrounding states. Chicago is also a big fashion city, as are L.A. and Miami. And even in D.C., with its international flavor and population of high salaried professionals, students care just a bit more about their appearances.Renzo wrote:This is actually true. I have found that on average, the northeast is one tiny step dressier at all times than the rest of the nation. For events you'd wear a polo shirt to in LA, people wear a button-down, maybe even a sport coat in NY/Boston/Philly/CT/etc.PDaddy wrote:Geography matters.
If you're in Ann Arbor, who cares what you wear? You're on your way to the library, the apartment, the gym and the "tavern/bar". But if you're at NYU...Greenwich Village...different story at least a few days a week. You will just feel compelled to dress a little nicer sometimes. And, happy hour in the big cities, which is a big part of law and b-school school culture(s), influences fashion.
Take a look at the movie Hitch, and you'll see what a NY bar on a Friday night with law students looks like. Look at will Smith's style. That's a NYU/CLS/Fordham/'Dozo law student even on a Friday afternoon. Look at Gossip Girl, cuz some students actually dress like that in NY.
If you are.... from my experience, 95% of people do not fit your description for school...even on a Friday afternoon. Also, where the hell do you go to happy hour that people dress like Will Smith? I don't know about you, but most of my law school friends and I are far too in debt to be going to places like that...

You just don't know how serious we NYC kids take our fashion. (I'm guessing--next year )00TREX00 wrote:I'm going to assume this is a flame - if not, please throw yourself off a bridge. Please no t-shirts. You're not a kid anymore --- wear something with buttons.

I couldn't tell either. It's gotta be a joke, though. Referencing Foot Locker in the first long post just made it too obvious.ihatelaw wrote:I can't tell if you're serious or not.

No flame. Just sick of seeing scrubby-ass dudes around the law school. LS isn't UG 2.0, it's professional school. Have some decorum.00TREX00 wrote:I'm going to assume this is a flame - if not, please throw yourself off a bridge. Please no t-shirts. You're not a kid anymore --- wear something with buttons.

UGH. I'm having flashbacks of gross hairy toes and filthy-brown dollar store flip-flops. Barf-o-rama! Go back to the beach, hippie! No one wants to see your hobbit feet!macattaq wrote:I guess flip flops are out then, eh?rayiner wrote:Please no t-shirts. You're not a kid anymore --- wear something with buttons.
(sorry... that wasn't really aimed at you. But yeah, lose the flip-flops.)

That's because in Ithaca everyone just wears an Eskimo suit to school everyday to keep from freezing to death.neskerdoo wrote:T14_Scholly wrote:This is probably the most retarded thread I have ever seen.

Business casual, IMO. There may be a couple folks at the extremes (sweatpants, "destructed" jeans, three piece suits), but it seems that the best bet is dress somewhere in between.

whatever you do, make sure you wear a tophat. you simply will not be cool without one.
gloves, penny loafers, and a pimp cane are optional.

Top hat is not necessary. A fedora will do.atlantalaw wrote:whatever you do, make sure you wear a tophat. you simply will not be cool without one.

I suggest a mohawk and bondage pants.punklaw86 wrote:Hello, I researched this question prior to this post and came up short of a concrete answer. What is considered proper attire for male law students? Jeans and T-shirts, polos and jeans, dress shirt and jeans, dress shirts with a tie and dress pants, or full blown suits?

Maybe add a nice jacket if you're feeling stylish.

Exactly. Blue or orange tux it is.Helmholtz wrote:simple rule - if you wouldn't wear it to the prom, don't wear it law school
Seriously though. Wear jeans/khakis that are in decent shape and a shirt with buttons and collar/sweater if you are trying to fit in. And wear non-shitty shoes. And shave and shower everyday (finals week may be an exception for shaving everyday rule).
