Fears about Law School

let us all share what we are nervous about, so we can make each other feel better.

Or laugh at each other :P

I'll go first!

I love my friends at college and I'm scared I won't make as many or as close friends in LS... probably irrational, but it is what it is :P

I'm in a relationship that will have to be long-distance during my 1L year. We're long distance this semester too, since she's abroad, but it's definitely hard. Planning on making it work, though...and she's said, repeatedly, that she'll come to wherever I am in school when she graduates from UG.

Aside from the study abroad part, I am in an identical situation. Luckily, the area I want to go to law school in is somewhat near our UG, but it's still going to be tough.

dating as in you have a significant other, or dating as in finding (or not finding) someone there?

I'm afraid I'll know more about certain things than my professors due to extensive private sector experience which may make them resent me.

Maybe not the dumbest, but I'm afraid I won't excel like I have at my UG. I've always been ahead of the class at every stage of schooling, but I think that is the case for a lot of law school students. I wonder if I have what it takes to stand out.

I'm scared I won't even have a basic understanding of the things I need to know for law school. :(

don't worry. law school will be your boyfriend. and it will be just as emotionally abusive and distant as most guys too.

I get the impression that all women in law school are already in long-term relationships. Don't really have my hopes up or anything. I'm not sure I'll have enough of a life to do anything significant outside of school either. *shrug*

they begin in them. but from what i hear (tls + multiple friends already in law school) they are all single by 2nd semester.

so don't fear, there will be single women. however, whether they will want to date you is a better question.

If my plans work out- I will be quitting a well-paying job, moving back to where I grew up, living with my dad, breaking off a 3 year relationship (I currently live with my bf) and starting over school-incurring more debt, and entering a market that is less than stellar.

I don't even want to date 1L- I feel as though if I have any time leftover it will go towards my dog. (who is probably the best male I know)

If you study efficiently (ie: don't dick around) you should have plenty of time for outside activities.

Also, the pastures are a lot greener outside the law school anyway...

Can't be worse than engineering school. ;)

Anyway, I'm a little more concerned about whether or not I'll be able to maintain the kind of work ethic that is expected. I hope that I can actively absorb the material and stay on par with my peers in terms of necessary skills/knowledge.

Only if you have an attitude about it, and this post suggests you might.

The work ethic in law school is kind of contagious. And in any case, what really matters is that last month before finals...

3 fears of what law school will do to me..

1) make me dull and uninteresting

2) bald prematurely..

3) turn me into a cynic

other than that, I'm excited!!

Anonymous confessions in threads will not translate into in-class behavioral dynamics.... I'll be careful about it. ;)
