Turn lemons into lemonade. Do what you can with what you have. It's not much, so the best you can do is frame it in the best light possible. I wouldn't make it the focal point of your application. Other than that you could go all George O'Leary on us and make stuff up. But somehow I don't think that's going to fly with AdComms.

Uh, I already see 3 softs you can put down:
1) academic scholarship
2) church worship service
3) employment

Focus on your PS and you're good to go.

Sell what you've got.

For example, I got a little $400 endowed scholarship in Pre-Law...not a big deal. On my resume:

"Joe T. Schmoe Pre-Law Merit Scholarship Recipient: Awarded to the top student in the department"

Nothing in that sentence is untrue, and damn does it sound better than $400.00

Well, academic achievements go in different boxes than other stuff. So put those down.

As for the other stuff - it doesn't matter. At all. Unless you fuck something else up, and even then I doubt it. If you have stats that will help a schools USNWR rankings, they will admit you. I literally left the entire extracurricular box empty on almost all my apps and have gotten admitted with scholarships identical to people with great softs. Sucks for them.

Wow, given your experience wth ECs, I wonder if and why law schools consider your PS and LORs at all.

I applied to schools in a range between 30 and 87. So I am not sure you can apply my results as you go up the rankings, although I think you probably can to a certain extent. If I had to take an educated guess I believe this is probably typical for a majority of schools outside the top 14, and even some schools in the T14.

Here is other info about me to put in perspective:
I am a white male from non-prestigious undergrad in NYC (it is a CUNY). Worked as a cashier for limited amounts of time. No ECs. My PS was not about anything exhilarating and I don't imagine it could have helped that much. I only have one LOR so far (because I am stupid), although it is probably a pretty good one.

So, put that all together, and you see that it's all about the numbers .

Many thanks. Your case seems to prove the point quite well indeed. A lot of people would bend over backwards for Tulane with 60K, and think all their trouble entirely necessary.

Managing websites from home for money may not seem like a big deal at first but if you think about it, that's entrepreneurship right there. Starting a business and developing a clientelle is something worth while if you spin it the right way.

I totally agree with the person above me - you essentially started a business! With the right language, that can sound like one heck of a soft.

"Founded a small Web start-up company that manages Web site content and technical tools for a wide range of clients."

See how impressive that sounds? And it's 100 percent true.
