Is EVERYONE applying to law school these days?

I've only been back at school for only a week and a half, and I've already heard probably a dozen people mention that they're going to law school. This is so ridiculous, and it is one of the main reasons for the pathetic state of the legal market. A law degree, it seems, is the new psych degree. Anyone else sick of the ABA giving accreditation to any and all universities that have building filled law textbooks?

Call me a Negative Nancy, but I think we could do without all the law schools outside of the top 100. This would mean doing away with 100 ABA approved law schools, but I think the country could get along fine without them.

I think most people would be better-off with MBA's, which can actually make you rich (or even "wealthy"), are easier to obtain and are more versatile. Law degrees are not nearly as profitable. And let's be real, that's what most law applicants are after, financial security. Most people who apply to law school would not make good lawyers and do not have the passion for it.

This is actually excellent for all of the applicants who are extremely dedicated and focused. The number of people taking the LSAT w/ little to no preparation is increasing dramatically, as people are panicking and taking this test without really putting in much work. This is very good for people that approach the LSAT and prepare for it like their lives and future at stake.

I think most people would be
even better off getting an undergraduated degree that will land them an actual job, and not waste their time and money on MBAs and JDs, unless they really need them.

This is why I'm not nearly as worried as some other people on thee boards. I know caring does not equal good grades but it certainly doesn't hurt.

Most MBA's are even more worthless than JD's, if only because at the JD lets someone practice a different career.
If law is T14 or bust, MBA is certainly T20 or bust.

But what is the point of getting you MBA? So you can work in a corporation and make shit? It seems like the people in business that do very well are the ones that started their own business, which obviously does NOT require and MBA.

Does anyone know if this sudden increase in the number of law schools is recent? How many law schools were there 15 years ago.
FYI There are around 200 ABA approved law schools today.

I wish that was the case, but these people will usually settle for a tier 4. Everyone knows that going to law schools (any law school) means you're intelligent and that you will eventually be rich.

Some companies and/or public employers will give auto-promotions and/or auto-raises for employees who complete an MBA or a Master's. Some companies make an MBA an informal pre-requisite for promotion at certain levels and don't really care about its quality. Some companies pay for MBA's and consider it a significant "soft" in evaluating/promoting their employees. However, if a person is not in one of those specific situations, I generally agree with the T__ or bust mentality for b-school, except I think T20 is probably way over-generous.

This isn't true though. Just because more people are taking the LSAT unprepared, doesn't mean you stand a better shot at any schools. You may end up in a better percentile, however law schools at the top don't say to themselves "oh 25% more people took the LSAT this year so we should make our classes 25% larger". No, in fact, the raw numbers of good scorers also go up and competition for the top seats stiffen.
