I went to a public school and there still were only like 2 people in my grade other than myself who bought into evolution. Most of the teachers also did not believe it was real.

I'm surprised by that, even at my public school it was largely omitted by every science teacher except 2, my 8th grade teacher and senior bio teacher.amta wrote:i was taught evolution at my christian high school with the disclaimer that "evolution is only one perspective of what could have occurred."chargers21 wrote:I went to a public school and there still were only like 2 people in my grade other than myself who bought into evolution. catholic high school - definitely was taught that evolution was real/not really a matter up for debate. still taught within the framework of "there's room for divine intervention/intelligent design when you ask what comes before the big bang/before the start of evolution" but was treated as just as much of a fact as gravity.chargers21 wrote:I'm surprised by that, even at my public school it was largely omitted by every science teacher except 2, my 8th grade teacher and senior bio teacher.amta wrote:i was taught evolution at my christian high school with the disclaimer that "evolution is only one perspective of what could have occurred."chargers21 wrote:I went to a public school and there still were only like 2 people in my grade other than myself who bought into evolution. Tampa/St Pete I'm assuming?Dr.Degrees_Cr.Cash wrote:I'm never 100% on what qualifies as suburban.
I grew up in a city, but a pretty small one (5th largest in the sate) that was basically a suburb of #3 but turned into it's own city. My life was not urban by any means, but I also don't think my life was suburban either. People who grew up suburban, did you grow up in a development like an hour away from a skyscraper or just in a smaller town?
Also, are there other terms beside just urban and suburban?

Also went to catholic high school and it was a mix of teachings. Religion teachers generally avoided the subject or tried to cast doubt on evolution. Science teachers adamantly taught evolutionAnon.y.mousse. wrote:catholic high school - definitely was taught that evolution was real/not really a matter up for debate. still taught within the framework of "there's room for divine intervention/intelligent design when you ask what comes before the big bang/before the start of evolution" but was treated as just as much of a fact as gravity.chargers21 wrote:I'm surprised by that, even at my public school it was largely omitted by every science teacher except 2, my 8th grade teacher and senior bio teacher.amta wrote:i was taught evolution at my christian high school with the disclaimer that "evolution is only one perspective of what could have occurred."chargers21 wrote:I went to a public school and there still were only like 2 people in my grade other than myself who bought into evolution. I feel like my school was fairly progressive for how rural and conservative the area was. Evolution was definitely discussed and wasn't dismissed.
