I'm a UCH '12 grad.

Please let me talk to you about your decision to attend UCH.

I'd like to know of your experience at and post-UCH. Currently torn between UCH for near-full and UC Berkeley at sticker.

If I could do it over again I would not go to UCH. Feel free to PM me as well.

With the exception of the very few who got big firm jobs, every single friend of mine from UCH says the same thing.

Hey why wouldn't you go to UCH again?

What has been your experience with the law school so far?

I enjoyed my time at UCH a lot. I got a great education there.

But more than half of my class didn't have a job lined up at graduation, dozens of my friends didn't find jobs for 1-2 years (a handful gave up and changed paths entirely), and almost everyone went into a ludicrous amount of debt.

Hastings upped their offer to 30k per year, so it looks like I'll see y'all in the Tenderloin.

LOL at the comments in this thread. I've also heard the same thing from many recent alums. Looks like UCH isn't a good deal for most people as they have to immensely struggle just to get an ordinary, everyday legal job. Anyways, their median dropped to 158 so maybe the caliber of students are less significant than before. I mean their median is now below Loyola and San Diegos for christ sakes. How competitive can it be when there are so many people with 150s LSAT scores.

2015 graduate here, PM me if you have questions or concerns. I do have a job and I know people throughout the employment spectrum, from unemployed (many) to boutique firms (handful) to biglaw (few) up through federal judicial clerkships (very few). So many kids come into Hastings without knowing the first thing about legal practice or even job-hunting; do yourself a favor and at the very minimum read through the "legal employment" section at TLS to get some sort of idea of what is going on. I can also help out. I struggled mightily and needlessly due to my own ignorance when I started law school, and would like to help others avoid that quagmire if possible.

I know which professors and administrators are useful/helpful and which will slap you with B or ignore you if they have half a chance.

I know what options are reasonably available based on what types of grades you get, and what you need to do to get the best grades you can in your first year, which is incredibly important.

I suggest getting housing in the tower or living along the BART line somewhere in the East Bay. I lived with family, which is probably the best option if it's available to you.

Obligatory "down with Dean Wu."

Wow. For my class of '12, I think the max I ever heard anyone getting was $10k/yr.

Yeah, I almost didn't apply to Hastings because it seemed like they didn't offer much money usually, but I'm glad I changed my mind.

A.Taarabt7 wrote:the administration is horrible at HasTTings. Sorry, I had to say it. Compared to Davis, San Diego, and even Lie oyla , HasTTings administration is god awful. So unorganized and distraught. Only department that is on top of their game is financial aid. Ironic, isn't it? You need a loan, they'll help out easily. Yet if you go to Career Services for counseling on finding a job so you can pay off that debt...good luck.
Aren't you a 0L? Seems like you have an axe to grind against Hastings; as a 0L, any info you'd have re Career Services would be secondhand. The only exposure you'd have to Hastings would be with their admissions staff.

Strange.

Disclaimer: Not a past, current, or future Hastings student.

Does seem like he has an axe to grind. On the other hand, I've found Career Services to be pretty incompetent (though that's probably true at most schools).

Also, we should really all be here for the bashing.
