Don't expect anything until March.tonysoprano wrote:Would someone mind sharing how they were notified of being awarded a scholarship (mail, email, carrier pigeon, etc)? Any thoughts on if/when that will come, or should I be making other plans?

That wording looks new. Based on the language, I believe that you only need to check off Need/Merit.Josh4737 wrote:This may be a silly question but on the Financial Aid Information Sheet do we need to select Merit-based Scholarships if we already selected Need/Merit-based Scholarships, or are they completely different things?

Does Cornell give its admits access to admitted students website like Berkeley? I was admitted via email, and haven't received any mail/correspondence beside the admission email, which contained some downlodable content.

Also, and i think it's mentioned on the website, but Cornell will give you a travel stipend which should help negate some of the cost of travel if you do one of the admitted days. And maybe just coming to visit.

Yes and no. To gain access to the Berkeley website you had to create a calnet ID, and it gave you a personalized checklist of what you've completed in the admission process, as well as asking you to declare admission/tentatively declare admission. Thanks for the link, though. I hadn't seen that, either.runthetrap1990 wrote:http://www.lawschool.cornell.edu/admissions/admitted/ do you mean this?Oskosh wrote:I don't think I want to travel to New York for one day given the cost of flights.

I'll look into the travel stipend to determine whether I'll attend ASD.

Gotcha. Cornell has something similar to that too, but they won't send it out until after the final deposit deadline (if I remember correctly).Oskosh wrote:Yes and no. Do you have to do this before they consider you for any aid? Do you send by mail, email, or fax? If by mail, did you enclose a cover letter or some sort of identification?
You can send by any of the 3 methods and don't need a cover letter.Lavitz wrote:institutional aid /=/ merit aid.nickhalden wrote:That's what I thought at first, but their Financial Aid FAQs state:
The Cornell Law School awards over $4 million in institutional aid each year to new and returning students. Almost 50% of Law School students receive scholarship assistance. To be considered for institutional aid please complete the Cornell Law School Financial Aid Information Sheet and Need Access Report by March 16 and submit both 2014 parent and 2014 student federal tax returns to the Financial Aid office.
Just follow the instructions on the financial aid information sheet and you'll be fine.
Merit = form only
Loans = add in FAFSA and student tax returns
Need = add in NeedAccess and parent tax returns

Nope. Assume they were received.secadc11 wrote:Does anybody know if there's any sort of tracker for financial aid? I sent in my various documents and I'm wondering if I should be expecting any sort of confirmation, or just assuming that they were received.
Or you can call / e-mail to ask them to confirm receipt if you're worried.

You didn't make a copy of last year's tax returns for your own records? Time to make a change in record-keeping habits my friend.Broncos847 wrote:Anyone else having a bitch of a time requesting tax returns? I haven't filed my 2014 taxes yet and it won't let me request my 2013 tax return online because it can't verify my identity for some reason. I ended up calling the number and mailing it to my old address where I lived during undergrad, but now I'm relying on the current tenants to save it for me. They're nice guys, but pretty reckless partiers, and the deadlines coming up. Plus the phone service was kinda vague and I haven't received any confirmation that they've been shipped. Anyone have any suggestions? Do you think Cornell will take my turbotax return until I can file my 2014 taxes?
Now that March is almost upon us, does anybody have a sense of when we can expect scholarship offers? Next week? The week after? End of the month?
