Looking to pass the bar as cheaply as possible

Post by JamMasterJ » Wed Apr 20, 2022 4:21 pm

I passed the bar in 2016 with a pretty wide margin, self studying with the Barbri course. I am taking the bar again because my old score is too old to get into my new state's bar by score transfer (both are UBE states), so I am taking the test again. My new state has a lower passing score requirement, and I did all of the essays in pen last time (not repeating that part).

I want to try and save some money and was hoping to just buy books. Can I use the 2021 books? Looks like there are full sets on Ebay for a good price. Has anyone else here passed the exam without a course?

You can find everything you need to pass the bar for free online, but here's my recommendation:

Buy a secondhand Barbri essay book for your jurisdiction on ebay. Buy "lean sheets" which are like super condensed 2-3 page outlines for each subject - easier to memorize and enough to pass essays.

Buy a secondhand book with enough unanswered MBE questions to use to practice (at least several hundred).

You could probably get all this for $100 to $200. It's up to you to put in the time and the work. Good luck!
