I am a psychometrician who scores the exam and help content expert set cut scores for exams. Although I am not working for NCBE, I think I can still help you understand exam design, standardized scores vs raw score, cut score, and assessment framework.

I noticed the July Bar exam is coming up. I hope my professional knowledge can help you better understand exam so that you can focus on the study and prepare for the Bar.

Could you please post a chart that translates raw scores to final scores for the MBE? i.e. for any particular score, roughly how many correct answers are needed?

Score / States
129 - WI
130 - AL, MN, MO, NM, ND
132 - OK, IN, MI
132.5 - Guam
133 - CT, DC, IL, IA, KS, KY, MD, MT, NJ, NY, SC, VI
134 - HI
135 - AR, FL, GA, MA, MI, MN, NE, NH, NC, OH, SD*, TN, TX, UT, VT, WA, WV, WY
136 - ID
136.5 - AZ
137 - OR
138 - CO, ME, RI
139 - CA
140 - AK

*SD requires a passing score of 135, but a minimum MBE of 133
Note: PA has a passing score of 136, but the MBE only counts for 45%. PA is adopting the UBE in 2022
Note: NV has a passing score of 138, but the MBE only counts for 33%
Note: VA has a passing score of 140, but the MBE only counts for 40%
