I came across an attorney profile today. This attorney appears to have passed the NY bar exam awhile ago (a few years), yet is not admitted to practice.
Does anyone know why this is? Is it a C&F issue or something else?

My friend passed it he July 2016 NY bar and is still not sworn in in NY. NY requires you to apply for admission within 3 years of sitting for the bar, so some people take their time. I submitted my materials 2.5 years after passing and was sworn in nearly 3 years after. It’s not always a C&F issue.

1st dept takes a long time (lots of applications) even if you submit quickly.

Why would you wait 2.5 years after passing to apply?! Did your employer not push you to become licensed? Were you admitted in/practicing in another jurisdiction, such that NY admission was more of a "nice to have" than a "need to have"?Anonymous User wrote:My friend passed it he July 2016 NY bar and is still not sworn in in NY. In any case, I wouldn't recommend that anyone delay on purpose. Why risk the three years running out (and then having to retake the bar)? If at a large employer, no huge rush to apply the moment results are released, but there's taking a few months to finalize your application, and then there's waiting 2.5 years...

It takes time to get admitted but makes no sense to wait years. Wasnt that the reason you went to law school?
