I am in a bit of a situation as I will be working in MA after law school but I will be returning to ny in around 3-4 years. I understand the UBE allows me to take my score to both states but if I take the bar in MA, what are the best steps so that I can be admitted in NY as well before I start work in October?

New York is a UBE jurisdiction. They accept other UBE scores. The only minor NY requirement is to take an open book New York Law Exam after you passed the bar. Most people can pass the NYLE half drunk.

So just take the Mass bar and not worry about NY at all until after I complete the bar?

MA has adopted the UBE effective July 2018. NY is UBE already.
