Barbri starts on the day of my graduation so I will be starting the following Monday.

Anyone else notice that in the beginning RP III lecture notes she skipped over two fill in the blanks?

I watched at 9:00 am so I'm just trying to make sure I wasn't still half sleep.

I started barbri online a little early to not feel as overwhelmed later on.

With that being said, Barbri really need to get a new Wills and Trusts lecturer. His handout is mostly just dense text that he seems to half remember. It's pretty rough.

I might be behind the times on this, but the above document is helpful for prioritizing what to hone in on for the MBE. For practice purposes, I'm shooting for 130/200 as a baseline to ensure a roughly 140 scaled MBE.

(math for above: 200/175 = 1.143 x 130 = 148.6 ... so with margin of error at least 140)

do we think its good or bad that the essay takes a 60% weight?

Bad in the sense that, if you hit the average on the MBE and it's low - as in, below 140 - and you do equally well (average) on the essays (which are scaled to the MBE) you fail.

Good in the sense that, we have a damn good idea of what at least 4-5 of the essay subjects will be.

It just looks like that the essays are the easiest way (even on subjects you don't know the rule) to get the most points. You can write 8-9 point essays by just clearly reasoning and taking a thorough analysis of the facts given as long as you include each section of CIRAC.

I don't that is a right as if you look at the pass rate and detail of answers for 10/10 have you need to know the rule/rules and explain detail.

Yeah, I'm not sure how to gauge what a 8-9 point essay is in my practice based on the fact that the examiners only release model 10 point answers. I agree with the sentiment that we should spend more time studying essay topics since it counts for more. But I also think that an boosting my MBE at least a couple of points above average is a failsafe because essay grading is somewhat more arbitrary.

Also, FWIW, I just found and joined this website and am glad to have an outlet of folks to commiserate with.

After getting a local government essay about the proper procedure for a FOIA request I am not so sure I am looking forward to the essay portion

So far, MBE stuff hasn't been too bad, but then again I am not really sure how the Themis questions compare to the MBE stuff.

What are the essay topics that are most likely other than civil procedure? I've read something like Ks, property, professional responsibility, wills, crim, and family law.

Does anyone know of a place where I can get short answer questions to work on?

My materials had some, but I worked through all of the real property ones (all 5 of them, 3 out of 5 correct) and I am a repetition type of person. The more I answer the better I will feel, especially since I didn't take classes like Wills and Trusts and I went to school out of state.

The Barbri essay workshop basically said those that you pointed out I think. I had it printed out but left it in my office - I can check tomorrow and update you with the exact answer if no one else has by then.

I thought evidence is not tested on the state portion? (referencing that VA bar portion essay topics chart)

The barbri chart doesn't show it but it was tested in February of this year, and at least one other time in the past couple of years. I went through all the old exam questions and tallied up the results but didn't write a date for anything but the most recent testing date
