thoughts on making your own outlines?

Is this really necessary to pass? I think it sounds like a gigantic waste of time since I already have all the Barbri materials plus flash cards. But my boss insists it's the only way to learn. If people have done this, how long were the outlines?

I did this in the last couple weeks before the bar (and I'm glad I did) but I can't tell you whether it is going to be worthwhile for you. It really depends on your learning style. Did you make outlines in law school to help you internalize material? Do you feel like you are getting a good handle on the material with flashcards and the Barbri stuff?
I think my outlines were in the 15-20 page range.

I wouldn't recommend it. I don't mean to say that there isn't a benefit to making your own outlines, but there just isn't enough time and from what I've seen the goal can become completing the outlines rather than learning the material. My advice is to use wisely the outlines that have been created for you, and do a lot of practice questions/practice essays.

It was the only way to learn
for your boss.
It was the only way for me too -- but everyone is not the same, and so their study tools/method of choice won't be the same.
Plenty of people just use the barbri materials + flash cards...or whatever other method with success.
I generally think that the method that worked in law school is probably the method you should try to mimic for the bar...if thats possible

Do what works for you. I personally learn best making my own outline but literally whatever helps it stick in your head is the "correct" answer here.
