Foreign Lawyer: NY Bar Prep Time

Hi -

I am a recently admitted lawyer from Australia. I am originally from the U.S. and wish to take the New York Bar exam this July. I have submitted a foreign lawyers request with the NY bar association, but I was wondering what people thought re: how long it will realistically take to study for and pass for NY Bar exam.

In short: am I pushing it to start studying now and pass the Bar in July, given that my law degree is from Australia and I would therefore have to learn U.S. cases and statute from scratch?

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Don't worry about cases/statutes, you don't have to name specific sources, just know the rules. A commercial barprep course will make sure you know what's expected.

Make sure to study how the exam questions are asked. 2 months diligent study is plenty. It's a marathon, don't burn yourself out before the exam.

Adaptibar is excellent for MBE prep.

Good luck!
