After hours is ROUGH! That is a long wait. However it made me think of two quick stories relevant to the discussion re: bar exam release dates.

Speaking of "office hours" I knew a friend who was licensed in Idaho. Apparently on the day they release the exam results, you can call the state bar office on the phone, give them your name and exam ID code and they will tell you "pass or fail" on the phone. Making this even stranger, is that the results were also posted online that same morning.

My second story comes from the state of California where my cousin used to practice. He worked for a large firm who had summer associates who had been made job offers upon graduation and worked at the firm part time and studied for the bar exam (or some sort of plan similar to that, I'm not sure). On the day the California bar exam results were released, about 2 hours before the results came out, all of the new associates who took the bar exam and many of the partners and other associates would go out to the bar and have a few drinks. Then the associates would leave the bar and go back to the office to check the results online (this was before smart phones). The deal was, if you passed the bar exam you came back to the bar and celebrated with everyone. If you did not pass, then you cleared out your office and desk and went home. Fortunately, my cousin passed! Unfortuantely, since this was in California there
were actually some newly hired law grads who did not pass, did not go back to the bar to celebrate, and their offices were empty by the next day.

I also know of another story where an attorney was driving (a fairly long distance) to a work meeting when the results were posted and he didn't pass. He didn't tell anyone until the next day because people had forgotten that it was the day the results were released. He kept his job. Then he failed again. He kept his same job and his employer did not lose confidence in him. The next time he passed. He has a great job, makes great money, loves his work and the people he works for. Couldn't be happier.

Just a reminder there are all sorts of good stories, horror stories, and uneventful stories regarding the bar exam results. The only story that will matter to you is your own. You are going to be successful, even if it takes you more than one try. Never give up. Keep working hard and try and keep your chin up. You can and will pass it. If you pass it on your first try, then get out there and bust your ass and find a job and start being a lawyer.

Being a lawyer is a great feeling. I think you are all going to enjoy it, so do not give up on that after one silly failure on the bar exam.

I haven't looked at TLS since right after the Bar since everyone was getting banned. I too took Iowa. I called the Admissions office last week and they said Sept 11 between 9 and 10. Let's hope for 8:59.

Doesn't matter as much for me since my job doesn't require it (but would have to take it again if I failed); just want to not think about it and consider that chapter of my life closed. Most importantly, I want to rid myself of all my study materials and free up some needed space in my apartment.

Anyway, Polk County Bar is hosting a social for new admittees at Star Bar on Ingersoll in Des Moines from 3:30 to 5:30 if you hadn't heard.

Just want to say good luck to my fellow Iowans! Can't wait to hear some good news from you all!

Also, if you have time in between your celebrating, feel free to pop me a PM with your MBE scores. The poor people who have to wait another 2+ months to get results (myself included) have created a spreadsheet analyzing the information to find some glimmer of hope as we wait.

Thanks, and best of luck :D

Will do - and I have turned into someone just sitting in their office at work today. Literally counting minutes until I feel like I can go home.

Phew, I don't have to take it again!!

Congrats guys! I too was surprised by the high pass rate (86% overall, 91% for first-time takers). Then again, I'm not complaining.

Does anyone know if we get our MBE results at least? I'm interested to see what I got.

Congrats, Shredder! I knew you were worried and avoiding TLS for awhile towards the end of studying.

Apparently they email them to you and you should receive them next week.

Also, for those of you interested, we're compiling MBE scores. If you're interested in contributing, head over to the MBE results post to add to the list :)

Congrats to everyone else that received great news in Iowa!!! Do the Hawkeye state proud ;)

Thanks! Yeah, I had to start avoiding TLS once I started panicking before the exam (and for much of the time since taking the exam to try to help not focus on it)!
