What is it, and how is it different from a Barbri/Kaplan/Themis/whatever course?

Here is a rough breakdown from talking to some of their reps this week. I can only speak about southern CA bc that's where I am at.

PMBR is part of Kaplan and is no longer an individual run program that it once was. You can take the MBE/ PMBR by itself but it is included as part of their roughly $2,000 course. As for Kaplan & Themis, these are online courses. Barbri is a lecture type of setup(even though you will be viewing DVD recordings). Barbri is the typical standard BarPrep program that just is really out of my budget at this moment.

I am leaning towards Themis bc I like that they assign a lawyer specifically to me to answer my questions and keep me on track. The attorneys that establish this program were from Barbri but they decided to branch out and revise the program. According to the rep, there was discount of $250 that ended in Oct but he'll extend until this coming mid-week for me. (There is a $20-$25 shipping fee.) I'll end up paying roughly $1500 and can start viewing their 20 min. videos asap. One last thing, rep is letting me try it out online for free.

Side note, if you YouTube Kaplan, they have a lot of cool videos of their methods that are good to check out. I just want to know I have a lifeline I can contact anytime I need, which is what I'll get from Themis.

Kaplan owns PMBR, but it used to be its own independent company that would supplement other barprep courses (Barbri). It's basically an intensive MBE review. I believe they offer a three day course and a five day course. I used Kaplan for bar review, so it was already included my course. I don't know if I would've paid for it if it wasn't included.

My firm said they will pay for BarBri and PMBR. Does that mean I do most of my studying with BarBri and then an intensive 3- or 5- day MBE course with PMBR too? If so, is that before or after BarBri? Would it be duplicative?

My school paid for me to take the 5-day PMBR course. I did it online the week before Memorial Day, and my Barbri course started the day after Memorial Day. Basically, you answer 50 questions each day then watch a long lecture video about each question. That's all it is. A waste of time and money, IMHO, because Barbri was more than enough for the MBE.
