Performance Tests and ExamSoft--Writing/Outlining Logistics
My law school did not use exam software--we just did our exams on regular word processing software. For the (California) Performance Test part of the exam, I'm wondering how much the software limits your ability to outline the Performance Test answer on the computer.
I'm pretty sure, for example, that there's no way to flip back and forth between a detailed outline and a "clean" answer space, right? Is the window big enough to make a big typed outline that you convert into your answer as/after you insert relevant facts from the file? Or do you basically need to outline on separate paper?
Thanks for any advice!

Re: Performance Tests and ExamSoft--Logistics of Outlining/Writi
I had been thinking about this as well, since I've also never used examsoft. I decided to practice outlining on paper for an entirely paranoid reason - worst-case scenario, if my computer crashes while I am outlining or shortly into the writing half, I would still have the paper outline to use for the rest of the answer. Having to write by hand is terrifying enough on its own, but spending 90 min reading and outlining and then having to dive into hand-writing without the benefit of that outline would be awful. Obviously, the chances of this happening are miniscule, so I'm just doing it for my own peace of mind.DeepSeaLaw wrote:My law school did not use exam software--we just did our exams on regular word processing software. Does anyone know, for NY, if you can "practice" on the SofTest exam software through a mock exam even though you've already done it once to confirm the installation? My law school didn't use this software and I'm nervous about essay formatting and didn't spend that much time playing with it for the mock exam. Also, is there no spell check? Thanks!

I don't think we can use it until the test day, which is pissing me off. I want to be familiar with the formatting.bigredforlaw wrote:Does anyone know, for NY, if you can "practice" on the SofTest exam software through a mock exam even though you've already done it once to confirm the installation? I was able to download the mock exam again so it comes up in the menu of available exams (along with the bar exam files)...I know it's silly but I'm nervous to click on it JUST in case it messes something up!Tanicius wrote: I don't think we can use it until the test day, which is pissing me off. I don't know if ExamSoft will be the same as it was in law school, but generally you can flip between something labeled "Question 1" and something labeled "Question 2" etc. I think it's like a blank canvas, and there are more questions than what you're really asked. So on the California PT, you would probably write your answer in the thing called "Question 1" but if you flip to Question 2, you could write out your outline. At least that's how it worked at my school, and I can't promise it will be like on the actual exam day.

I am not sure about your jurisdiction, but I know my state, and at least a few others that use examsoft allow you to take a "practice" exam. It essentially just exists so you can practice the formatting, see how to move between questions, and make sure your laptop doesn't have any technical hangups.
I didn't bother with it much because i used examsoft in law school, but maybe poke around your BLE instructions and see if there is any mention of a practice exam being downloaded.
