Anyone know if NY allows copy-pasting on a computer typed exam? Also, is there an auto spelling check?
I have a 3 yrs old Dell which has served me loyally. How much of a risk is it to use it?

I bought a new laptop. My old one was 4 years old, and while it was still working fine, I've dropped it a number of times. Just didn't want to risk it and laptops are fairly cheap.

No copy and pasting
No auto spell check
If in doubt, just make sure to register your computer with a practice test before the exam. If it crashes, it's saved on a server and they let you use another computer. It might distract you though.
Or they also let you borrow a laptop.
I'm assuming you mean nyu

Thanks iliketurtles123,
Do I register in the location itself? And what's with borrowing a laptop I thought if your comp crashes you are bound to handwrite the bloody thing?
Taking the test in Albany

plath, I'm pretty sure iliketurtles123 thought you were a student at NYU and answered your question accordingly.
You must have already registered your computer with ExamSoft (you had to do by 4pm May 29 in order to use a laptop during the NY bar exam). You will have to handwrite if your computer craps out during the exam in Albany. I don't know the answer to your questions about spellcheck or copy/paste.
I, too, haven't decided if it is worth the risk to take the exam with my nearly 4yr old macbook. It costs only $50 to install ExamSoft on to another computer, and I am considering it. I just have not decided if it is worth the money to buy another computer.

Hi Codicil, thanks. I have already registered my computer with ExamSoft --
However iliketurtles123 said something about a practice exam which I think you do later on but before the exam, to make sure program works on your pc

What I didn't understand was the part about saving it on a server and letting me use another computer -- is that DUURING the exam itself?

I believe iliketurtles123 just finished 1L year and the advice given was only applicable if you're a student at NYU taking a law school exam. I know that it is NOT accurate for the NY Bar Exam.
From the NY Bar ExamSoft website (LinkRemoved):
Technical difficulties may occur before, during or after the bar examination. Technical difficulties may include hardware or software malfunctions, data saving or retrieval problems, operator errors, upload or download problems, or the loss of electrical power at the examination facility. In the event any technical difficulties occur during the bar examination, you must handwrite your essay answers in the answer books provided and no additional time may be allowed. If you choose to continue to use your laptop to write your essay answers after experiencing technical difficulties, or when you have been instructed not to do so, you do so at your own risk.
