Since I am a 1st Department resident it's likely that I'll be assigned to Javits. But I prefer to take it in White Plains. Would they let me switch?

Yeah, but the link stays the same every year. So it's helpful to have ahead of time.Anonymous User wrote:I was under the awareness it gets sent out to you after the application period closes.Anonymous User wrote:Does anyone know the location link?

Agreed - I'd very much like to chose my location soon so I can book a hotel somewhat nearby. Tagged for link purposes.
Also, when is everyone else's bar review class starting? Mine isn't til' May 29th or something - it seemed kind of late.

The year I took the Bar (2010) they were starting to let people choose their location. Do they no longer allow that?Agreed - I'd very much like to chose my location soon so I can book a hotel somewhat nearby. Tagged for link purposes.
I highly recommend not taking it at the Javits center if you do have a choice. While I didn't take the exam there, I did take a BarBri test prep there and the conditions weren't fun. I think I would have been very stressed out taking the actual exam there.
I took mine in Buffalo and stayed at the hotel where the Bar was held. It was a very smooth, non-stressful process that I recommend.

If you're coming from out of state, you should probably book two hotels now - one in Albany and one in Buffalo - that you can cancel: http://abovethelaw.com/2013/04/taking-t ... e-to-stay/.snowpeach06 wrote:Agreed - I'd very much like to chose my location soon so I can book a hotel somewhat nearby. There's also Saratoga Springs as an OOS choice. I may actually do that one since apparently no one else does .Anonymous User wrote:If you're coming from out of state, you should probably book two hotels now - one in Albany and one in Buffalo - that you can cancel: http://abovethelaw.com/2013/04/taking-t ... e-to-stay/.snowpeach06 wrote:Agreed - I'd very much like to chose my location soon so I can book a hotel somewhat nearby. Re: NY Bar Exam Application
I'm gunning for Buffalo as it's the closest to where I currently am. However, my NY residence is closest to the city, and I heard they often place you wherever you are closest to. However, since the city is full so quickly, I'm hoping they won't enforce that. Does anyone know for sure how they treat NY residents who are out of state for law school?
edit: Ugh, I think I'm actually going to be placed in Albany. I really hope that's not the case. It's so much further - and I just think Buffalo will be less hectic. I want my bar exam experience to be as calm and comfortable as it can be.

Re: NY Bar Exam Application
Do any past NY bar takers have the link to the test center registration? Someone earlier said it was the same every year. It won't be active yet but if locations disappear really quickly it would give us peace of mind to have it now.
I am wondering if I should reserve hotel rooms in Buffalo and Albany just in case. I know Javitz sucks but it would be easier for me since I live in NYC already and am staying in the same apt for the foreseeable future.

Re: NY Bar Exam Application
I am a NYC resident who was attending school in DC. I listed my DC address as my permanent address so that I could be placed in Buffalo. I was worried they'd place me in Albany but they let me take Buffalo, I believe it's a less popular choice so they had the room. After hearing stories from the Javits Center my year, I was really glad I made that choice.I'm gunning for Buffalo as it's the closest to where I currently am. Eh, I think I put my parent's address as my permanent address. I just looked at the change of address form and it said that changes for that impact bar seating wont' be processed til' after the test - so I'm guessing there is no point in changing that now.dolia wrote:I am a NYC resident who was attending school in DC. But, I did book for Albany and Buffalo. I wasn't able to get super close, but I'm within a 10 minute drive which seems fine to me.

I booked hotel rooms for both yesterday. Got a hotel in Albany that ATL said was booked. just used different check-in/check out dates. For Buffalo, I booked the hotel connected to the center.somewhatwayward wrote:Do any past NY bar takers have the link to the test center registration? Someone earlier said it was the same every year. Re: NY Bar Exam Application
I live in Jersey City, go to school in NY, so I get screwed and have to go to Albany or Buffalo, when NY is 5 minutes away. Booked hotel in both places a long time ago in anticipation of this, so I guess I'm set. Problem is that I"m taking NJ bar the next day, so if I'm in Buffalo, that will be awful. I almost should have just subletted an NY apartment for a month, just to have an NY address for bar application purposes, since NYC to NJ is a lot easier than BUffalo to NJ on the next morning.

Re: NY Bar Exam Application
If you have a job, I'm pretty sure you can use that address (I'm also taking NJ the next day which is why my goal is to do Albany or Saratoga; fuck the Javitz center and I can't go to Buffalo). I know people that have done it to take NYC (Javitz Center). I'm going to book hotels in Albany (but not close since those are all gone; but luckily I'll have a ride to the test center) and Saratoga Springs.Anonymous User wrote:I live in Jersey City, go to school in NY, so I get screwed and have to go to Albany or Buffalo, when NY is 5 minutes away. Also, I don't think you get placed in Albany or Buffalo... I think you can choose depending on when you register so long as there is space. Hopefully someone can find the old link soon .
Also, if you're taking the NJ bar, you can probably get Secaucus and won't have to go to AC, so the drive won't be too bad if you have to go to Albany.

I am out of state and registering for the NY Bar. I am moving into an apartment in May and already have my bills going there. Can I use that address? Has anyone ever used a future address and been audited or reprimanded?

Would you be willing to share the name of the hotel connected to the Buffalo testing center? Looking to book as well. Thanks in advance!tfer2222 wrote:I booked hotel rooms for both yesterday. It's the Hyatt Regency Buffalo.

Pretty sure you can although you probably should check the application details. I think people can also use their firm addresses, but don't quote me on this one.Ihaveaquestion wrote:I am out of state and registering for the NY Bar. How is the parking situation at the convention center in Albany? I'm trying to decide between a walking-distance and a driving-distance hotel.

There's ample parking, but there are also cheap nearby hotels. That said, Albany is not meant for walking.HETPE3B wrote:How is the parking situation at the convention center in Albany? I'm trying to decide between a walking-distance and a driving-distance hotel.
